Nachodsko [ Region ]

Nachodsko

The Nachod district is located between the Krkonose (the Giant Mountains) and Orlicke hory (the Orlice Mountains), on the Czech-Polish border. Although Nachod belongs to the Czech's smaller districts, is really important because of its great touristic attraction.
Especially in the summer season, the region of Nachod offers a lot of possibilities to relax away from civilization in active or passive way. Whole territory of Nachod district is well-known thanks to quite preserved nature with its beautifull nature reserve Adrspassko - teplicke skaly (the Adrspach - Teplice Rocks) covering the area of about 25 square kilometers, which is a perfect place for hiking and rock climbing. Near to Ceska Skalice there is the dam Rozkos where the visitors can take advantage of water activities, especially of swimming and fishing.

The Nachod district is very rich in historical munuments. The most interesting of them are the Renaissance castles in Nachod and in Nove Mesto nad Metuji . Josefov is also very atractive town with the later military fortress which is the example of the military architecture of 18th century. In addition, this fortress is remarkable because it has never been conquered. Every visitor can admire its ingenious system of the fortification on the candle-lit walk in the undergound passages and in the accesible areas in this unique fortress.

The other place, where visitors can find something famous from Czech culture, is the castle and the Grandmother's Valley in Ratiborice which were so idylic described in the well-known novel "Grandmother" by Czech writer Bozena Nemcova in 19th centure. The visitors who are interested in history and old battles can be attracted by the place of the bloody battle in Vysokov where took place one epizode of the battle near Hradec Kralove in 1866. On the hill Dobrosov there is another often visited place which would appreciate the history fans - the artillary anti-nazi fortress from 1938. This fortress was one of many fortress of the Czech border's fortification.

In Nachodsko there are also the places where the visitors can relax and heal their bodies - in the spa Velichovka . Here is possible to take the medical cures, which help heal the diseases of the motor apparatus.

It's hard to describe all beauties of Nachodsko in few sentences. The best way to know it, is to come and see it. You can begin maybe with the trip in the romantic valley named Peklo (Hell) formed by the river Metuje.
