Jihlavsko [ Region ]

The district Jihlavsko is located on the both sides of former provincial border between Bohemia and Moravia. There is a typical hilly land of Ceskomoravska vrchovina with woodland area, which forms whole country of the district. Two areas - Velky Spicak u Treste and a pond Zhejral in Jihlavske Vrchy - belong in category of National Natural Land.

A harsh climate influences land´s relief. The climate was the cause of later settlement, that man came to this land in 12th.century till. People formed a lot of seats with big considerable number of architectural and artistic historical sights here, some of them form interesting collection not only national, but also world´s cultural heritage. The administrative, culture and economic centre of the district is ancient city Jihlava, its origin you can find in the end of 12th.century. City historical area contains 213 memorable protected objects. City walls and minster cloister with a church of Nanebevzeti Panny Marie are the oldest bulding sights, the cloister was built after year1250. Dominic gounds with church sv. Krize was put up several years later, built in French Gothic style. A construction of third Jihlava´s cathedral, parish church sv. Jakuba Vetsiho, was started before 1250. Fourteen early Gothic houses is located on the large square (3,6 ha). Interesting proof of Gothic building are Jihlava´s katakomby, it was built by cellars, some parts of cellars are opened to the public from square. The Baroque finished architectural and urbanism development of the city, without Jesuit church, college and grammar school.it was built in1680-1727. The Baroque created a new form for exteriors , a plague on the square and foutains with sculptures of Poseidon and Amfitrite. There are a lot of galleries, museum of Vysocina, an exposition of Gustav Mahler or modern ZOO. A town Polna lies in the north part of the district, was founded on a crossroad of trading roads before a half of 13th century. You should visit a castle, there is a museum with big and extraordinary rare collections, church of sv.Katerina, a chapel sv.Anna and especially deanery cathedral Nanebevzeti Panny Marie, one of the biggest Baroque cathedrals in Czech Republic. A historical village Brtnice is located in the south-east part of the district. There are a small river named as village and a Reneissance chateau. Two Baroque bridges with sculptures of saints are very impressive. A lot of visitors from large surroundings come to see tradicional "Plague Procession", it is performed for the memory of plague epidemic in 1715. A town Trest lies in south part from Jihlava. The making naivity scenes, there are very popular and it has 200 years tradition. You can find the exposition of bethlems in one of historical houses. Many families make bethlems yearly, some of them are opened to the public. The town is tourist centre for walking to the Velky Spicak (734 m) or to the springs of river Moravska Dyje. A town Telc is architectural unique objects, its historical centre with Renainssance chateau was written on the list of World´s Cultural Heritage UNESCO. Romanesque tower of a church sv.Ducha shows about town´s origin in the half of 14th.century on the old settlement place. Epoch in the reign of Zacharias from Hradec had radical importance for the town. He rebuilt a simple Gotjic castle to beautiful Reneissance chateau., its form was kept to the present. A memory of impact Jesuit Order is a Baroque art - Jesuit college with church Jmeno Jezise, sculptural group on the square and many statues. A lot of houses have Baroque facade.

Nova Rise lies in the south-east part from Telc with imposing Baroque grounds of cloister with church of sv.Petr and Pavel, valueable of interier decoration and a Baroque library with ceiling frescos and about 15 000 books is opened to the public.
