Jewish settlement [ History ]

Jewish settlement from the mid-19tz century.

In 1941, the town was converted by the Nazis into a ghetto.
Over 152,000 people of Jewish extraction were sent from all over Europe to the concentration camp here; some 35,000 died in terezín itself, while 87,000 were transported to extermination camps.
Some 9,000 victims were buried in the ghetto cemetery between 1941 and 1942.
The Ghetto Museum opened in 1991.
