Area with sparsely populated hills in central Bohemia covered mostly with broadleaved forests. The geological diversity and the varied landscape are reflected in the extraordinary richness in plant and animal species. The harmonic co-existence of man and nature has been recognised by including Křivoklátsko in the network of UNESCO biosphere reserves.
