Of the once 12 synagogues, the Upper Synagogue and parts of two others still stand.

The Upper Synagogue, originally built in 1550, gained a new Baroque scheme in 1719 - 1723, with a cupola supported by a vault carried by four columns in the middle of the hall; since restoration, it has served as a museum.
